Salim's story is one that begins with sadness and woe, but ends with happiness and joy.
He was only four months old when his father took him to a hospital in Kenya where Salim was treated for malnourishment and pneumonia and a defect was found in his heart which required treatment.
Salim's parents abandoned him, but when he was able to leave the hospital, Salim was taken to the Lewa Children's Home in Eldoret, Kenya. There, he received the care and treatment he needed, and more importantly, he received love.
Today, Salim is about 8 years old still living at Lewa.
He has transformed from being an extremely sick, abandoned infant into a cheerful child who has fully recovered and proudly exclaims "I am Odero."
For more than 20 years, Bread and Water for Africa® has been proud to partner with Phyllis Keino, our volunteer international spokesperson who founded Lewa, the Kipkeino Primary School, and Baraka Farm, to provide a loving home for hundreds of orphaned and abandoned children.
Salim is just one young boy who is on his way to becoming a successful, productive happy adult and looking forward to a bright future and there are many boys and girls just like him whose story begins in tragedy and ends with happiness and joy all because of people just like you.
